Speaking about the concept of the games and of his character, Hunger Games commentator Claudius Templesmith, the actor said “It’s like ancient Rome as seen by contemporary reality TV; people trying to make misfortune out of other people’s misery is a very contemporary thing.” When asked about whether he took inspiration from reality or real life sports commentators he added, “not really reality TV, more like ESPN.. those guys who do American Football, all of that stuff I find very interesting; those guys that sit there and you hear them pondering over everything”. On how much improvising the actor did for the film, Jones added: ”all of it, we were able to [improvise everything], he [Gary Ross] was very relaxed about the script. “

The task of condensing a 400-page novel into a sleek feature film running just over two hours, while retaining the nuance of the story and characters, proved a daunting task for the British screenwriting couple Peter Straughan and Bridget O'Connor, who has since died of cancer. Straughan points out that choices had to be made in the 1979 mini-series too. "A couple of characters were cut, even though they had seven hours. We never intended to do the whole book. We had to find a fillet to cut out and go with that." For those already worrying about how they will cope without Downton Abbey in the New Year, ITV has come up with a £10million answer.
The broadcaster has enlisted Downton creator Julian Fellowes to make another epic drama series – this time retelling the story of the Titanic. The four-part show, called simply Titanic, will mark 100 years since the ship sank after hitting an iceberg on her maiden voyage to New York. It is already being described as ‘Downton on sea’ as it follows the Oscar-winning screenwriter’s tried and tested formula of interweaving the lives of the upper and lower classes. The show will feature 90 actors including Sophie Winkleman, Timothy West, Toby Jones and Downton star Maria Doyle Kennedy. The cast also includes Perdita Weeks, best known for her role as Mary Boleyn in The Tudors, and little-known Canadian actor Noah Reid. Fellowes has said that the show will be very different from the 1997 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, insisting his drama will be the most comprehensive view yet of life aboard the doomed vessel, on which 1,500 died. A two-minute trailer for the show will go out on ITV this Christmas Day - just after the Downton Abbey Christmas special is aired, giving fans a double treat. Read more at the Daily Mail |
